    06.04.2026

The Office for Digital Learning and Online Education recently delivered an online professional development workshop for Qatar University faculty titled Designing for the Mind: Cognitive and Multimedia Learning Principles in Presentation Slides and Educational Videos. The session was facilitated by Dr. Nabeel Albashiry and focused on helping faculty strengthen the design of instructional materials in ways that better support student learning.

Grounded in cognitive load theory and multimedia learning research, the workshop examined practical principles for designing and delivering effective presentation slides and for selecting or producing educational videos that are pedagogically sound. Faculty were introduced to strategies for structuring content clearly, aligning visuals with narration, and avoiding common design practices that can reduce comprehension and increase unnecessary cognitive load.

The session also featured relevant digital and AI tools that can support the efficient development of high-quality instructional materials. According to post-session feedback, the workshop was well received by participants, who described it as informative and useful for enhancing their teaching practice in digitally enriched learning environments.
